However people who are settled in Chennai also drive down to Pondicherry to take a day off from work. The climate there during the summer is hot as compared to that of Chennai while the winters are cool and comfortable. The best part of the year to visit this place is from November to January.

Another famous place is The Aurobindo Ashram which is a mesmerizing place. Located near the sea, it was once the abode of Shri Aurobindo during his stay in Pondicherry. He began his career as revolutionary but later withdrew from politics and settled in the then French territory of Pondicherry
