State Reorganization act was passed on 1st November 1956 and on this day, Kerala, a state in Southern part of India was formed. Based on the language spoken the states were divided.


So, in this part of India the dominant language spoken by the people was Malayalam. Therefore the areas in which Malayalam were spoken were brought under one roof and was named as Kerala.

It is bordered by Karnataka to the North, Tamil Nadu to the South and East and the Arabian Sea to the West. Its coastline is on the Arabian Sea.
